Introduction to Quran Recitation

🎯 Course Objectives:

The Quran was revealed to be recited beautifully — with precision, reverence, and care. In this foundational course, Qari Salem Jahedar introduces students to the essential rules of Tajweed from the ground up: the articulation points (makhaarij) of Arabic letters, characteristics of letters, rules of noon saakin and tanween, rules of meem saakin, rules of madd (elongation), and stopping and starting. No prior experience with Arabic or Tajweed is required. This course is taught in person at IIT only.

Instructor Bio:

Qari Salem Jahedar hails from a respectable family of Qur’an reciters and teachers in Libya. His father, Ali Salem Jahedar ensured that his many sons memorized the Qur’an and perfected its science of recitation. Salem Jahedar attended the Faculty of Islamic Studies at the University of Tripoli where he achieved a Bachelors of Islamic Studies. He later migrated to Canada with his family and has subsequently taught the Qur’an and led the prayers occasionally at the Islamic Institute of Toronto and other masaajid.
